Thomas Jefferson on Deregulated Banks / Corporations
September 7, 2011
Posted by on In 1802 Thomas Jefferson said:
Banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around the banks will deprive the people – until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered.
Components of Fiction
September 7, 2011
Posted by on Fiction has five primary components which help you create an experience for your readers:
- Story world
- Characters
- Plot
- Theme
- Style
Story World:
- Universe and/or world where the story takes place
- Often called setting or sometimes even milieu
- Geography including rooms, buildings, cities and/or national boundaries
- Races of intelligent beings, plants and/or animals
- Political, economic, religious and social structures
- Languages
- Types of work and entertainment
Characters:
- Players on the stage of the story. Each characters has a long and detailed past, known as backstory
- Each character must have abstract ambitions and concrete goals
Plot:
- Series of actions characters take to move the story forward
- Has all of the following layers:
- Synopsis
- Single-sentence summary of the story
- Three-act structure
- Scene
Several paragraphs perhaps pages of action that takes place at a single place and time - Lowest layer of plot is the paragraph
Theme:
- The meaning of the story beyond the bare story that it tells
- Theme does not have to be profound
- Some authors start by choosing a theme at the expense of creating a solid story world, three-dimensional characters or a convincing plot. The result is a sermon masquerading as a story. Beware of sermons
Style:
- This is the authors very own and no two are exactly the same
- One may study world, characters, plot and even them but style, style is something one must develop on their own.
These are notes I’ve taken along the way, jotted down here for my own quick reference and perhaps the benefit of others as well.
Benjamin Franklin Liberty nor Safety Quote
September 7, 2011
Posted by on Benjamin Franklin (17 January – 17 April) Great American inventor, journalist, printer, diplomat, and statesman. Among his many contributions was the following quote:
They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.
He wrote this shortly before February 17, 1775 as part of his notes for a proposition at the Pennsylvania Assembly. Various derivatives are often become attributed to Franklin:
- They that can give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.
- They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.
- Those Who Sacrifice Liberty For Security Deserve Neither.
- He who would trade liberty for some temporary security, deserves neither liberty nor security.
- He who sacrifices freedom for security deserves neither.
- People willing to trade their freedom for temporary security deserve neither and will lose both.
- If we restrict liberty to attain security we will lose them both.
- Any society that would give up a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither and lose both.
- He who gives up freedom for safety deserves neither.
- Those who would trade in their freedom for their protection deserve neither.
- Those who give up their liberty for more security neither deserve liberty nor security.
Those who would surrender essential liberties for temporary safety, deserve neither. –
How To Make Sun Tea
September 6, 2011
Posted by on Sun tea is awesome! It’s so refreshing and the flavor makes ones taste buds dance with joy. There’s just nothing like it when it comes to the drink of choice while working out in the yard, lounging in the sun or enjoying a wonderful meal with the family.
The quintessential perfect blend is extremely easy to make and requires nothing special at all.
It’s best to make either a half or full gallon at a time. Partially because the flavor comes out just right and partially because it will go so quickly
Here’s for a gallon, just cut everything in half except for the time outside for a half.
-
Fill a gallon jug with cool water. Preferably a glass container, but a common semi-clear plastic milk jug will do just fine.
-
Poor in 1/4 cup of sugar and mix well. 1/2 cup if you prefer your tea a little sweeter.
-
Get 12 Lipton Tea Bags 8oz, i.e. the same small bags you use to make a single cup of hot tea.
-
Dangle the tea bags from the top of the container from the strings that are on them.
-
Place the lid on the container to hold them in place.
-
Set outside in the sun for 45 minutes.
-
Place in refrigerator and allow to cool.
-
Enjoy
